Video Description
Life Around Home's William Moss presents container gardening ideas and looks at containers for growing spider plants. He shows us how to mix practicality and aesthetic by planting both edible peppers and beautiful spider plants in the same container. William chooses a lightweight, composite plastic vessel made by Designer Planters Inc. A very useful tip presented here is to fill the bottom of the container with a lightweight material like oasis, rather than rocks, helping to keep the container light. Don't fill the pot too much, leave room for a high vertical element as well as things to fill the arrangement out and even droop over the sides. William is making this container garden for someone who claims they "can't grow anything", so he uses hearty plants that can stand up to abuse and neglect. A combination of the recycled plastic composite, the organic soil and the drought tolerant plants he chooses help to keep the watering needs to a minimum, a plus for forgetful gardeners! Finally, one of William's most helpful tips ever - put the drainage holes in the side of the pot as opposed to the bottom. This helps retain a reservoir in the bottom of the container which the feeder roots can access for moisture if need be. For more helpful tips on green living, subscribe to our channel!
